City2Surf 2016

Enormous and heartfelt gratitude to both Mark from My Gungahlin and Jarrett for their truly legendary and absolutely astounding efforts in the City2Surf held on 14th August 2016. They both pushed and challenged themselves and opened their heart to significantly elevate awareness and raise an amazing $5826.41. They are Dainere’s Rainbow Heroes.

Thank you for letting me be part of the team. That was my first City2Surf and whilst I knew it was going to be tough, it was a real challenge! I know what I went through and the pain is nothing like what Dainere went through. If running for 14km helps with her final wish, I am happy to do it. I will be back in 2017, fitter and stronger for a PB.
~Mark~

This morning’s City2Surf race was a little bit of a shock. I reached the 3km to go mark and was on track for a PB, however, 100 metres away from the finish line I collapsed to the ground and was physically sick.

The first thing I thought of whilst feeling absolutely terrible at that point was how Dainere always pushed through her chemotherapy, radiotherapy, other treatments, pain and the many side-effects with a smile.

After about a minute or so on the ground being sick, I got back up and slowly jogged the final 100m. I ended up running 54:01 and first Gold Charity Runner to cross the finish line, Dainere helped me push through to the end.

A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who shared my link or made a donation! I know I say thank you about it a lot, but it is truly appreciated! Every single person who shared the link or made a donation is an absolute legend for doing so!
~Jarrett~

Happily Ever After Gala Dinner 2016

Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund Happily Ever After Gala Dinner at The Abbey Function Centre at Gold Creek was held on Saturday 18th June 2016.

This event is the major fundraiser for the Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund and was made possible due to the extraordinary and charitable major sponsors, Group One, Beyond Bank and Tatts On Tatts Off. The event was supported by community partners Transit Graphics and QCity Transit, entertainment sponsors Regional Wholesale Fruit Market and Simeco Electrical Contractors and many other wonderful community sponsors.

The Abbey looked absolutely amazing for this event, The Abbey team put on a fantastic night with the most delicious food and excellent service. The atmosphere throughout the entire night was truly magical and enchanting.

Chris Kimball with his genuine, warm nature was an outstanding host for the evening. Dr Jeff Fletcher spoke about his work in paediatrics and the recent announcement by the ACT Government that they will be providing a dedicated paediatric palliative care nurse for the ACT. Dr Fletcher shared a personal story by a family on just how important this service will be.
Local Real Estate Agent and auctioneer extraordinaire Jason Roses from Luton Properties entertained the crowd whilst conducting the auction which drew fierce bidding on the assortment of unique and high quality items.

Throughout the evening the crowd were entertained by Classical Guitarist Jeffrey Cheah, Balloon Modelling from Just Clowning Around, a sublime, delightful and energetic performance from Free-Rain Theatre Company and the cast members of The Little Mermaid, talented local band Something Like This, who got everyone up and dancing and extra Special Guest Amber Nicholls with her soulful and angelic voice performed two very special touching songs. Special mention of the spectacular sound and lighting from Eclipse Lighting and Sound that added a truly magical touch to the entire event.

The evening raised a massive $43,851.00 of which 100% will go to vital and innovative research towards fulfilling Dainere’s wish of ensuring there is hope for future generations of children and their families devastated by the diagnosis of a brain tumour, the number one disease killer of children in Australia.

Rainbow Run 2016

The Dainere’s Rainbow Run commenced in 2014 and each year the wonderful Year 12 Students dedicate their time to plan and run this very special event. We wish to express our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved for continuing Dainere’s Legacy and helping to create change for all children diagnosed with paediatric brain tumours in such a unique and beautiful way.
Dainere’s Rainbow Run was a 100m fun run completed by year 12 students at the Burgmann Anglican School athletics carnival. Students from years 9, 10 and 11 lined up beside the track and threw coloured Holi powder on the year 12 participants as they ran past.
This run embodies Dainere’s passion for athletics and her favourite quote, “you have to go through a storm to get to a rainbow.” It was an extremely moving and inspirational run to watch. When the colours embellished the students and the air around them the strong sense of Burgmann community and the kind morality of the students was evident.
The run intends to raise funds for the Dainere’s rainbow foundation through the students purchasing the holi powder and t-shirts for the run, but more than this it strives to continue Dainere’s legacy into the future. This run is a truly inspiring event which we hope will continue into the future for many years to come.

Grill’d Presentation

Last night members of Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund Committee were blessed, humbled and fortunate to visit our local Grill’d Belconnen Store where Dainere’s Rainbow was presented a cheque for participating in the Local Matters Programme.

We wanted to express our heartfelt and deepest gratitude to all the marvellous staff at Grill’d Belconnen, who through the Local Matters Programme give back to the Community in such a truly special way.

The funds that Dainere’s Rainbow received will go towards improving the outcomes for all children with brain tumours. Through a comprehensive research program that stretches from investigating the basic biology and genetics of childhood brain tumours in the laboratory, to the implementation of novel treatment strategies in state of the art clinical trials. The funds will help to find new treatment strategies that improve the cure rates for childhood brain tumours and simultaneously decrease treatment side effects.

Funding for all research projects and programs depends on vital community support to ensure that paediatric brain tumour patients receive the best chance of cure with minimal treatment side effects. This then brings new hope for future generations of Australian children and their families.

Again, we feel so grateful and humbled that Grill’d Belconnen included Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund in the Local Matters Programme.

“The thing I am most blessed and grateful for is to have continued with what is so dear to my heart and my greatest dream and that is to make a contribution to one day finding a miracle, the cure for paediatric brain tumours. I so passionately and wholeheartedly believe that no children in the future should have to suffer as myself and many others have with this absolutely atrocious and hideous disease.

Next year I will continue with my effort to raise crucial awareness and funds, every dollar really does count and I know that it is so greatly appreciated by the dedicated team doing the research. Helping others gives you a sense of worth, hope, courage, love and lights your heart.”

City2Surf 2015

In 2013 Jarrett ran his toughest and most significant race of his life. Not only had he recently lost his beloved little sister, Dainere, he was running in the event that they had worked on together as a special way to raise significant awareness and funds for paediatric brain tumour research and he also suffered a knee injury whilst training hard just a couple of weeks prior to the event.

In 2014, he again ran the same race alongside his special older sister Nalani, running squad great mate Mathew and new runner the wonderful Bridget as part of Team Dainere’s Rainbow.

Now again in 2015 when he could have run the race in the elite preferred start and have the advantage of an amazing start and running with the best and fastest, he has chosen to selflessly run the race as a Gold Charity Runner for Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund as he believes and is passionate about continuing Dainere’s legacy of significantly elevating awareness and funding for paediatric brain tumours.

The race is the world’s largest fun run – The City2Surf and it is only three weeks away today.

Jarrett wishes to express is most sincere, humble and grateful thanks to everyone who has donated.

We are so proud to announce that ticket sales raised a total of $1170 and the raffle raised a further $125.

We would like to express our most deepest and heartfelt appreciation to the incredible Jo and her amazing team at Sorbet, Kay Harrison for her extraordinary organisation and dedication, the very beautiful models, the talented makeup artist from CMA, GG’s Flowers the inspirational florists for the most rainbowiffic floral arrangement for a raffle prize and to those who attended.

Bus Advertising Campaign – July 2015

A campaign sponsored by local bus company Qcity Transit in Queanbeyan has been launched today by Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja to assist in creating vital awareness of Paediatric Brain Tumour Research and Funding across the wider Canberra and Queanbeyan regions.

Two buses with their bright ‘Dainere’s Rainbow’ themed advertisements will be used to draw attention to the special cause. The campaign will direct people to Dainere’s Rainbow Brain Tumour Research Fund which was created after Dainere Anthoney aged 16 of Gungahlin was diagnosed with a brain tumour on 24 March 2009 and passed away on 24 June 2013.

Dainere made it her aim to increase awareness of the horrific disease through publishing books about the illness including a children’s book about how a child should be welcomed back to school following treatment. The book has since been placed in every Government school library in the ACT. Dainere was also posthumously named as the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year in 2013.

100% of all funds raised go directly to Paediatric Brain Tumour Research at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Kids Cancer Centre in Sydney. The campaign will run indefinitely on the buses.

Dainere’s photo and her special words appear on the back of the buses: “My little voice could only make a small difference but together many voices could create change.”

“Dainere was an inspiration and a credit to our community. She showed me that your age was no barrier when it came to getting involved and helping others,” Senator Seselja said today.

“I’m honoured to be part of the official launch of the Qcity bus campaign today and look forward to seeing the buses around our local area.

“I welcome interest from likeminded businesses and individuals to make contact with Dainere’s parents Stephen and Yvonne Anthoney or the Fund Patron John Mikita, to discuss how you can assist with raising awareness. This insidious disease effects one person and their family in Australia every 5 hours and is the number one cancer killer of Australian children,” Senator Seselja concluded.

QCity Transit carries over 6,500 school children daily across our bus network. The buses will operate widely in the region down towards Cooma, up to Yass in the north, and throughout the Canberra and Queanbeyan region with school pickups, drop offs and inter peak charter. For more information on Qcity Transit go to www.qcitytransit.com.au

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land where we meet and work, the Ngunnawal people, and the many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from across Australia who have now made Canberra their home.
