Each year, our Christmas lights are offered not as a spectacle, but as a solemn and deeply meaningful act of remembrance, love, and unwavering commitment. They shine in honour of Dainere, and for every child who has died, who is courageously fighting, or who has only just begun this life-altering journey following a brain cancer diagnosis. They are lit in remembrance and also in fulfilment of Dainere’s own vision: that these lights would spread joy, love, peace, and hope, even in the face of unimaginable loss.
Each light stands as a testament to lives cherished, stories held close, and hope that refuses to be extinguished. They remind us that remembrance and joy are not opposites, but companions, that light can exist alongside grief, and that love continues to reach outward long after a life has ended.
This year, the evenings were noticeably quieter, with only a small number of visitors stopping by, in contrast to the crowds of previous years. Yet the purpose of the lights did not diminish. In the stillness, they shone with undiminished reverence, bearing witness, offering solace, and quietly radiating the joy, peace, and hope Dainere so deeply believed should be shared.
To those who did come, who paused to see the lights, who gently touched some of them, and who supported the stall; we extend our heartfelt and humble thanks. Your presence mattered deeply. To those who return year after year, familiar faces who have become part of this tradition, your constancy means the world to us. Your ongoing support is felt, remembered, and profoundly treasured.
Our Christmas stalls echoed this same spirit of generosity and care. With our deepest and most humble gratitude, we acknowledge Cate of Ruthless Customs, Esther, Joe, Emma, Sharon, Wendy, Tanya, Mark and Monique, and Patricia, whose beautifully handcrafted items were created with intention, kindness, and heart. Each piece was more than a handmade item; it was a tangible expression of compassion, generosity, and community.
Through the Christmas lights and stall, $408.00 was raised. Together with our wider Christmas fundraising efforts, this brought our total Christmas fundraising to $2,032.12: funds that will directly support vital childhood brain cancer research. While modest in measure, their value is immeasurable, representing hope transformed into action and care extended beyond this moment.
This Christmas reminded us that impact is not always loud, nor is significance defined by numbers. Sometimes it is found in quiet perseverance, in those who return year after year, in hands that continue to give, and in light that continues to shine, faithful to its purpose.
And so the lights were lit, not only to remember, but to share joy; not only to honour, but to offer peace; not only to mark a season, but to uphold a promise Dainere left behind. A promise that love would continue, that hope would be visible, and that even in the quietest of nights, light would always find a way to shine.
